27 year old male was elbowed in right side of face while playing football. Patient presented with pain, edema, echymosis, and palpable depression in right cheek.
Both the AP and lateral views (films 1 and 2, respectively) reveal evidence of an old craniotomy, which has been repaired and is well-healed (the patient suffered an epidural hematoma after a fall at age 8). However, the cheek injury was not apparent on either view.
Film #3 is a submentovertex (SMV) view, also called a bucket handle view, reveals obvious depression of the right zygomatic arch.
