A cystic expansion of the proximal segment of the nasolacrimal duct secondary to a congenital barrier. Dacrocystoceles, also called Timo cysts, can cause excessive tearing (epiphora) and infection.

Frequently recognized on prenatal ultrasound, Timo cysts usually spontaneously disappear within the first 8 months of life without complications.

The differential diagnosis includes anterior encephaloceles, hemangiomas and dermoid cysts.
