TITLE: Bone scan of the bilateral lower extremities

DESCRIPTION:
Bone scan demonstrates bilateral rounded focal uptake in the mid tibial diaphyses consistent with bilateral tibial stress fractures.

EDITOR'S NOTE: The fusiform shape, longitudinal orientation and intensity of uptake are all most compatible with a stress fracture. Acquisition of orthogonal views of the tibiae to determine lesion extent through the cortex are useful. At our institution, we hesitate to identify a stress-related change as a "stress fracture" unless the lesion involves at least 50% of the bone's width.
