| Title | Behcet Disease/syndrome Vasculitis |
| Text | Behcet disease (or syndrome) is a generalized small vessel vasculitis. It is named after a Turkish Dermatologist - Prof. Dr. Hulusi BEHЗET (1889-1948) - who described the disease or syndrome in the 1930's.
It appears that venules are the primary target - rather than the arteries, which characterizes the majority of other types of vasculitis. Neurologic disease occurs in less than 20% of Behcet cases. In a report by Kocek et al [ref] the most common findings were in the mesencephalic-diencephalic region (46% of 65pts) and in the pontobulbar area (40%). MR abnormalities included both parenchymal lesions and edema extending along the white-matter tracts. Some patients will develop venous infarction, after thrombosis of a dural sinus.
