| Title | Ductal Carcinoma in Situ (DCIS) |
| Text | There is a pleomorphic cluster of microcalcifications in the UOQ of the left breast. This is a typical presentation of Ductal-Carcinoma-in-Situ. DCIS is usually found by mammography. The cancer cells are confined to the ductal system and have not broken through the basement membrane to invade the parenchyma where the blood vessels and lymph vessels are. The standard treatment for DCIS is lumpectomy followed by radiation therapy. Tamoxifen for 5 years is controversial. There is approximately 45,000 cases of DCIS in this country yearly. |
