The anatomy of the nose, nasal cavity, and surrounding structures is very complex. Anything disfiguring on the face and especially the nose draws unwelcome attention to most, especially children, and can be quite difficult to repair.

Epidermoid cysts are true cysts with a squamous epithelial lining that produces desquamated cellular debris and breakdown products that fills the cyst cavity.

These cysts rarely degenerate to malignancy, but typically present a cosmetic problem in this location. Should they rupture or become infected, they may cause severe pain and scarring. Some will respond to intracystic injections of triamcinolone (a corticosteroid), but surgical excision is the most effective treatment.

It is necessary to carefully excise the entire cyst wall, since retained segments may result in recurrent growth of the cyst.
