At a recent French urine tasting session this was described as "Insipid, yet dull ..". Actually, there are two types of diabetes:
>Diabetes Mellitus (sweet or honey urine diabetes)
>Diabetes Insipidus (insipid urine diabetes)

Diabetes Insipidus (DI) is caused by an inappropriate low level of ADH (anti-diuretic hormone) resulting in an increased diuresis (increased urine production). ADH is produced in the hypothalamus and travels down the infundibulum (pituitary stalk) where the hormone is stored in the posterior pituitary - the region of the "pituitary bright spot" on T1W MR.

Causes of diureses and DI include:
>alcohol (you can't buy beer - you can only "rent" it
>hypothalamic dysfunction
>>child - eosinophilic granuloma (EG - a form of Langerhan histiocytosis)
>>adult - metastasis to hypothalamus
Location:
Endocrine (clinical)
Sublocation:
Pituitary Gland
Category:
Endocrine
