Heart (gross photograph, transverse section). Note the large discolored area in the distribution of the left anterior descending CA. The border of the infarct which is hyperemic, reflecting the high vascularity of granulation tissue. The center of the infarct is yellow and would be soft to the touch. This is the fully necrotic muscle remaining at the center, because resorption and the ingrowth of granulation tissue begins at the periphery where there are viable vessels.
