Marcus-Gunn Pupil is an afferent pupillary defect.

The intensity of the sensory input from one eye is different from the other, so that the degree of pupillary constriction with a light shining in one pupil is less than when with the light shining into the other eye. Common causes include optic neuritis (Multiple Sclerosis - MS) and retinal lesions.

Compression of the optic nerve in the orbit - as in Graves Ophthalmopathy and other conditions, may also cause an afferent pupillary defect.

Lesions of the optic pathways that are distal to the lateral geniculate body will NOT produce an afferent pupillary defect.
