The CardioSEAL is a FDA-approved device produced by NMT Medical of Boston, MA. It is used to close a patent foramen ovale (PFO). A catheter containing the device is inserted intravenously into the left atrium through the PFO by way of the right atrium. The device is released from the catheter just prior to exiting the left atrium through the PFO. The device anchors into the septum, occluding the PFO.
