The first study shows the lungs to be hyperinflated with hyperlucent upper lobes, more prominent on the left. The pulmonary vessels are attenuated or displaced in some other areas c/w bullous disease. The second set of chest films shows multiple air fluid levels in the left lung, with a blunted left costophrenic angle. The thin walls and smooth lining of the walls at the sites of preexisting large bullae indicate that these are infected bullae rather than lung abscesses. In addition to the obvious large bullae in the LUL, CT shows more clearly the bullous disease in the right lung compared to the chest film. These bullae are in the peripheral as well as central portions of the lungs. |
