Benign teratomas are relatively common causes of anterior mediastinal masses in young adults. This patient experienced symptoms indicative of several disease entities (i.e. pneumonia, bronchitis, asthma). This made the diagnosis difficult. The chest x-ray ultimately revealed a mass lesion which could explain all the patient’s symptoms. On resection, the patient was found to have a benign teratoma.
