Pelvic inflammatory diseae (PID) is usually a salpingitis that may progress to inolve the ovary (tubo-ovarian abscess).
Organism(s): 60% are gonorrhea, staph, strep, G- bacilli
Route of Infection: ascending from vagina and uterus
Clinical: Hyperemia and edema of tube, exudate, extension from salpingitis to tubo-ovarian abscess. Fever, lower abdominal and/or pelvic pain.
