Helicobactor Pylori (H. pylori) was discovered in 1983. It has been implicated as a caustive factor for:
gastritis
gastric ulcer
gastric neoplasms, including gastric cancer

Incidence - approximately 1/3 of US, up to 1/2 of the over 60 age group

Most pts are asymptomatic and current recommendations are to limit treatment to pts with disease signs and symptoms.

Treatment - clarithromycin + metronidazole/amoxicillin and an acidity inhibitor.
