Chiari I - low lying tonsils, 20-25% associated with a smooth, symmetrical, cervical, hydromyelia. Normal if tonsils <3mm below F. magnum (basion-opisthion line). Borderlin if 3-4mm below line. Definitely abnormal if 5mm below (usu symptomatic).
Chiari II is small pofo with herniation of cerebellum into cervical spinal canal and meningomyelocele
and maformations of the corpus callosum in most patients
Chiari III is a II with a cervical/occipital encephalocele
