a mucous retention cyst of the sublingual salivary gland.
1) simple (bluish mass in floor of mouth)
2) plunging - a pseudocyst from rupture of a simple ranula, extends below the mylohyoid, into the submanidbular or submental triangle
homogeneous water CT density and MR signal, cyst wall is thin or imperceptible, the mass is lateral to the genioglossus muscle
