The foundation for MedPix® was originally written in machine code and Basic on a Commodore 64 during the summer of 1984, by JG Smirniotopoulos. The first relational database program version was developed in Visual Basic in 1995-1996, also by Dr. Smirniotopoulos. The relational database was then ported to the Web by
Henry Irvine (Henry Irvine) in the Summer of 1999.
The dynamic HTML is generated by PHP and the database server backend is PostgreSQL.
The MedPix® Engine uses proprietary database structures specifically tuned for each image database application. Custom applications are currently being developed. MedPix® was granted USPTO Patent No. 7,080,098 in July 2006.
