Lipomas are the most common mesenchymal tumors. They rarely occur in the head and neck region. The most common location in the head and neck is the subcutaneous posterior neck.

Parotid lipomas make up 0.6-4.4% of parotid tumors. The most common parotid gland benign tumor is the pleomorphic adenoma representing 80% of cases.

Lipomas occur more commonly in males in the fifth to sixth decade. Characteristically they are slow growing. If symptomatic, treatment is surgical in nature.
