
WALLERIAN DEGENERATION:
After cerebral infarction, when the cortical neuronal cell bodies have died, there is atrophy of their distal portions (dendrites). This is seen as atrophy in the white matter, especially in the cerebral peduncles.
WRIST:
The proximal part of the hand, composed of the carpal bones (Latin - 'carpe' to grasp or clutch, as in 'Carpe Diem').
