A 64-year-old man with and incidental finding of an abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) on CT measuring 5.3 cm. Subsequent US measured the aneurysm at 5.6 cm over a 7cm span.
An aortogram was performed to aid in the planning of endograft placement. The AAA was demonstrated to be infrarenal, with a tortuous neck (seen to best advantage on the lateral view). There are duplicated renal arteries bilaterally. There is stenosis of the superior right renal artery. There are stenoses of the origins of the common iliac arteries bilaterally. Incidental note is made of an ureterocele on the left, with a dilated left ureter.
: (causes of AAA)
1. Degenerative (these constitute the vast majority; 90% are seen in association with atherosclerosis)
2. Inflammation
3. Chronic dissection
4. Trauma
5. Vasculitis
6. Connective tissue disease
